National Public Data: 272 Million Americans' SSNs Exposed - Company Files Bankruptcy

In April 2024, threat actors exfiltrated 2.9 billion records--including 272 million unique Social Security numbers--from National Public Data (NPD), a Florida-based data brokerage operated by a retired sheriff's deputy.

The 277GB dataset was initially offered for $3.5 million before being released for free on BreachForums in August 2024. NPD's parent company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy claiming less than $75,000 in assets despite $865,000 in net profits the previous year.
